The Concise Visitor Guide to Yellowstone eBook Matt Bolton
This book would be a great resource for making a vacation/visit to this park successful. I was very impressed on the wealth of detailed information; from history, the detail on the many hiking trails, what to do and see, where to eat and where to stay. All were covered very thoroughly!! There was even a chapter devoted to important phone numbers and web sites to help in your planning and use while in the park. Tour information, visiting in the winter, activities for kids, even a chapter on wildfires were very informative and interesting! Also, the maps throughout the book were a big help to get a perspective of the area.I have been to Yellowstone/Tetons area and I was glad to see a chapter devoted to the wildlife. The author covered the subject well in regards to warnings and helpful hints in enjoying viewing wildlife. And even throughout the book not just in this chapter, the author points out what wildlife to look for in certain areas of the park. Seeing the wildlife in Yellowstone/Tetons was the highlight for me when I visited 4 years ago.
For such a big park, the book has it all, no (yellow)stone is left untouched!

The Concise Visitor Guide to Yellowstone eBook Matt Bolton Reviews
Once again, Matt Bolton has come to the rescue as our Boy Scout Troop plans a trip to Yellowstone National Park. Boys of all reading levels can pick up the book and enjoy reading. Teaching Scouts to "Be Prepared" isn't always a simple task, and this book certainly helps us train the boys as they help organize their adventure. Fundraising is difficult these days and this visitor's guide has kept the boys focused on their goal. I highly recommend this book!
While the reviews by others were positive, I found the actual book to be too lightweight in terms of content and details. Appears that the author was stretching to fill the book versus more standard travel guides like Lonely Planet which are packed with content and information.
Perhaps a supplement, extra guide for some, but definitely not a book I would recommend a traveler take as his or her primary and only book.
The information in this kindle book is mainly for the first time visitor. For all others or for those who want more information on their Yellowstone visit see the excellent guidebook "Yellowstone Treasures" by Janet Chappelle. This is available both in print and kindle format.
For more good info on finding hikes, thermal areas, or waterfalls see Falcon Guide on Hiking Yellowstone National Park, The Geysers of Yellowstone by T. Scott Bryan, and The Guide to Yellowstone Waterfalls by Rubenstein, Whittlesey, and Stevens. Geysers of Yellowstone is available in kindle format but the other two are only available in print.
This is the second book I've read by Matt. The first one on Yosemite was equally good. This book was especially interesting to me since my husband and I recently visited Yellowstone. We didn't spend a long time there but could re-live some of the places we had seen. Matt does an excellant job of giving information on where to stay, where to eat, and what hikes to take. It's clear from his writtings that he truly loves the National Parks. It's written from a personal point of view which makes it all the more enjoyable. I would recommend this book to anyone planning a trip to Yellowstone National Park. It's a great read.
Perfect for my trip
The first time you visit Yellowstone can be overwhelming--it's a big place! Bolton's guide helped break things down for me and helped me make smart decisions about how I wanted to spend my time. The volume is readable and precise. I appreciated the lay-out and the information.
Very good information in this book to help plan your trip. There is so much to see in Yellowstone that it helps to have a plan ahead of time. You can stay with all the crowds and see a fraction of the beauty if you want but I would really recommend going on a few hikes. That's where the true beauty of Yellowstone can be found. And to avoid doing a lot of driving, split your accommodations between different areas of the park and sight see/hike around that area. I will be going back again and again, so much to see!
